It’s Craft Time!

I had a lot of fun with my girl yesterday. More often than not, I’m guilty of “working” more than I am “playing.” I thought it would be fun to do something crafty with my daughter. Even though I consider myself to be pretty crafty, sometimes, it’s nice to not have to plan too much to be crafty.

Awhile back, I bought some fun crafts for my daughter at Klutz.com. I had never heard of this site, but there was a great deal through Plum District.com. It was $14 for $30 worth of products at Klutz.com. I think I might have had some credits for Plum District, so it was even cheaper than the $14.00. I love crafts, so I thought it would be fun to get Violet some craft items and get this great deal. I’m so glad I did!

One of the items I bought was the Hand Art kit. I thought it would be perfect for my 3 year old. I was right!

We busted this kit out yesterday and had a great time. The kit contains a book with lots of fun “hand art” creations/ideas, as well, as crayons, glue, googly eyes, and pom poms. Everything is all nice and contained. I helped Violet draw the outlines of whichever animal/creature she picked and had her color in the main part. I also helped her put the glue on the eyes and she placed them on her masterpieces. We had so much fun! It was super simple, but a nice break in our day to do something creative!

I also got this Pop Bead Critter set for her and she played with that as well.

We started out by making some of the critters they showed in the book, but after awhile, Violet decided she wanted to make something different. She ended up making a giant necklace! It was so fun to see her mind work. She had a blast making a necklace that touched the ground when she put it on. I also made her a matching bracelet. The possibilities are endless, and so are the hours of fun :)

I can’t wait until they have another deal for Klutz on Plum District!  I’ll be sure to get it so I  can get more craft items. I also noticed that Klutz also sells “additional supplies” of certain items. They sell “additional” beads for the Pop Bead Critters. Can you imagine what else we could make with MORE pop beads? :)

Smokin’ “Red” Hot Deal

I had a couple of hours to myself today! Woohoo!! Seriously so excited!

My husband took our daughter to OMSI to meet up with a friend and his daughter for a playdate. Awesome! Our daughter loves OMSI and I get a couple of hours to myself! I was pretty excited! Once my husband confirmed that the plans were indeed set, I mentally made a “to-do” list in my head. Oh, the possibilities!

I haven’t had my haircut in about 6 months. I’m not even close to exaggerating on that timeframe. I was so over having hair that was “too long,” so I made a quick trip to get my hair cut. I also made the quickest trip ever to Target and found these little cuties on clearance, no less!

I thought they were so cute! They are perfect for my little lady, who is growing up before my eyes….to use for breakfast. She can be a “big girl” and eat cereal out of a bigger bowl. I won’t have to worry about them breaking since they are made out of melamine.

The absolute best part of these little cuties, was the price tag. They were….wait for it…..

13¢! Seriously?! That’s not a typo–see the photo for yourself. I would have paid the last mark down price of 44¢ for that matter! I was so excited! I snagged a few. I will use them for bowls to eat out of, bowls to put into our hall table drawer (to sort misc. items) and anywhere I think could use some cheerful little red/white bowls :) Kind of reminds of the Forrest Gump movie line…..”shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried. There’s pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, shrimp sandwich. That- that’s about it.”

Not Your Ordinary Slipper

One of my favorite all time gifts has to be the Ugg Coquette Slipper. Believe me, I’m just as surprised as you are that I fell head-over-heels in love with these! My husband got these for me Christmas 2009. I love them more today than I did yesterday.

It would not be my first instinct to have anyone spend so much on a pair of slippers for me, but after you try them, you’ll realize they are worth every penny! I have the ones that are pictured above. They come in a great selection of colors and the soles are sturdy enough to wear outside (or to the store….so, I’ve been told).

Honestly, if I could wear these all day, every day, I probably would. They are super comfy, warm, and just plain amazing!

If you decide to get a pair (or two!), you might want to try going down a size or two. I normally wear anywhere from 7.5 to 8, and I ended up getting a size 6! The lining inside is super fluffy and thick. Once you start to wear them, your feet form right to the slipper and fit your feet perfectly.

Proud Mommy Moment

The husband is out of town for the night, so naturally, we had a girls’ day. We baked cookies and then did some shopping! We decided to hit Target tonight since I wanted to check out their storage bins/containers.

One of the first things we like to do when we go to Target is check out their dollar section. You know, the section towards the front of the store that has things for $1.00-$2.50. I always tell my daughter that she can pick out one item from that section. She gets to decide what she wants and then puts it into the shopping cart. If, at the end of our shopping trip, she’s behaved, I will buy the item for her. I figure it’s a win-win for both of us. She gets a small, inexpensive treat and I get a toddler who behaves….most of the time.

Tonight, while we were checking out the dollar section, my daughter came across these adorable heart-shaped measuring cups and spoons. She picked them up and said, “I want to get these so I can help you bake.” Awww! Melt. My. Heart.

If you know me at all, you know that I love to bake. In fact, it has become somewhat of an obsession since I’ve been a stay-at-home/work-at-home mom. I guess it’s one of the few things I can still do with a child running around :)

Her comment about the measuring cups/spoons made me realize just how much she values her time with me in the kitchen. Of course I had to get them for her! Don’t tell her, but I also got her the matching red mixing bowl that goes with it too! It will be a surprise for her for Valentine’s Day!

In case you were wondering, the measuring cups and spoons were all one set (4 of each), bundled together for $2.50! The large, heart-shaped mixing bowl was only $2.50 as well. I can’t wait to give her own baking set. She’s going to be thrilled!

Happy Baking!

Am I the last to know?

Houston, we have a problem! Seriously, am I the last person on Earth to find out there are FREE reading apps for your smart phones? I have been wanting an iPad or a Kindle for some time now, but we can’t really justify spending the money on something I don’t need (although, I do feel that I need it–wink, wink)….regardless of how I might feel :)

I am beyond thrilled to discover (am I taking full credit for this discovery–haha)–that there are free apps you can download for your smart phones (and/or computers) so you can download those wonderful Kindle reading books that are available on Amazon.com. You can go here to find out more info or just search for the Kindle app in your app store on your smart phone. Super cool. Super easy.

Here’s a free* (yes, that’s right!) book by Tsh Oxenreider, Organized Simplicity that I just download tonight and I’m super excited to be reading it. You know I’ve been obsessed (I mean obsessed!) with organizing AND simplifying my life, so this book is perfect for me and where I am at in my life. Besides, it’s free, so how could I go wrong?

Happy Reading!!

*Amazon prices can fluctuate and change at any given moment. While it is free right now, I have seen it go back to $8.99, but if you check back on a regular basis, it tends to go back down to free :)

Target REDcard

Woohoo! My first post about shopping!

Shopping used to be one of my favorite hobbies…before I had a child. I still love to shop, but it’s not the same. I’ve now transferred my love (or should I say, part of my love?) into baking. Perhaps it’s because these days, it seems almost impossible to leave the house with the little munchkin. If we do make it out of the house, there is surely drama that will follow.

My most recent trip to Target ended with my 3 year-old taking her shoes off (while we were standing in line to check out) because her “feet were hot.” Oh boy. It’s anywhere from 30-40°F this time of year, so I couldn’t very well have her take her shoes off and go back out to our car with the no shoes on her feet! People would assume I was a horrible mom…who didn’t give her daughter shoes. Anyway, it didn’t end awesome, but sometimes, that happens.

Now, onto my exciting news! Today I received my Target debit REDcard in the mail. Woohoo! If you don’t know what the debit REDcard is, it’s a Target card that is linked directly to your checking account. You can apply for it through the mail or directly at one of the registers in a store. I applied for mine at one of the stores and it took about 2 minutes…literally. All I need was a voided check, driver’s license, and my social security #. They don’t run a credit check or anything. You’ll find out if you are approved within seconds and if you are approved, you’ll receive a temporary card (basically a receipt) with a barcode that you can use (in stores only) until your physical card arrives. Mine took about 1 week!

Now you’re probably wondering why I’m so excited, right? I don’t shop at Target a whole lot, but I do shop online quite a bit. It’s so much easier for me and less stressful. The Target debit REDcard will give you an additional 5% off your purchase AND gives you free shipping on your online purchase at Target.com (with no minimum purchase limits). The free shipping alone is what made the offer so appealing for me, and the bonus of no credit checks, which could affect your credit rating if you’ve been applying for a lot of credit cards. I love how easy and hassle-free it was!
